San Ysidro Ranch Wedding
A candlelit dinner, a song written for her, and a love that felt like a prayer.
Taylor & Simmie’s Wedding
at San Ysidro Ranch
A quiet kind of magic in the hills of Santa Barbara.
There are weddings that feel like productions — full of timelines and tension — and then there are days like Taylor & Simmie’s. From the moment I arrived, it felt like time slowed down.
They got ready at Rosewood Miramar, surrounded by friends who were more like family. The bridal party was electric — fun, emotional, wildly supportive. Everyone brought this sense of peace and playfulness that made it clear: this day wasn’t about performance. It was about presence.
San Ysidro Ranch is already one of the most romantic venues in California — tucked into the mountains with cobblestone paths, citrus trees, and the kind of light that feels sacred. But Taylor and Simmie brought something even more special: a raw, unfiltered love that filled every corner of the space.
A Day Built on Meaning
Simmie is originally from South Africa. She and Taylor fell in love here in California and have built a life rooted in creativity and spiritual depth. You could feel that in everything — from the vows to the music to the way they held each other in stillness.
Taylor wrote Simmie an original song and sang it to her just after the ceremony. No big stage, no announcement. Just a quiet moment between them — private, reverent, unforgettable.
Later, he and the groomsmen completely flipped the tone and surprised her with a choreographed dance at the reception. It was hilarious and joyful and somehow felt like an extension of the same love — just expressed with wild energy instead of stillness.
This is why I film weddings. The contrast. The softness. The realness.
Super 8 & the Texture of Memory
Throughout the day, I captured moments on both digital and Super 8 film — blending modern cinematography with vintage warmth. There’s something about Super 8 that strips away all pretense. It’s grainy and imperfect in the best way, like flipping through a memory instead of watching a highlight reel.
Taylor and Simmie’s love felt timeless, and the Super 8 only deepened that feeling. Laughing with friends. Candlelight flickering. Barefoot dancing. These are the pieces that linger.
The Look, the Light, the Feeling
Dinner was held outside beneath the Santa Barbara sky, long tables lined with candles and flowers, the hills glowing gold behind them. The speeches were raw and honest — every word full of history and hope.
The dance party that followed? Unhinged in the best way. It was one of those rare receptions where no one’s holding back, and joy fills the frame in every direction.
But what I’ll remember most is the way Taylor & Simmie looked at each other all day long — like the rest of the world had fallen away.
A Note on the Venue: San Ysidro Ranch
If you’re considering getting married at San Ysidro Ranch, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s timeless without being flashy. Quiet without being stiff. There’s a warmth to the space that lets your story shine, whether you’re planning something big or small, spiritual or simple. It’s easily one of the most cinematic wedding venues in Southern California.
